The chord progression for the track 'Rollin On' was written by James Woods back in 1996. At that time 'Woody' and I we're writing a lot of material. He would come up with a riff or progression and i would find something that fitted vocally. a rough idea of the vocal line and the words 'rolling on, get ready to roll.'
The main gist of the song came a little while later whilst walking one afternoon a park in west London. The park had originally been the estate for a wealthy family. The daughter of this family had married a Gambler, who had proceeded to ruin the estate and all it's wealth..'
I decided to resurrect the song because I had become fond of playing the chord progression myself. I needed to rewrite the words because they were lost with time.. I had snippets but not enough to constitute reworking them. It seemed another theme was emerging with the song. The idea of resurrecting the song became the theme. Picking yourself up after you've fallen. Dusting off your boots for one more go. Having Faith in Lady Luck.
And so in 2012 I put pen to paper and rewrote the track.. I started the recording on a visit to England that year with Graham 'Smiffy' Smith on Double Bass, Gem Quinn on drums and Gareth Austin on the Banjo. Before i left the UK i managed to get Jez Hellard to lay down the harmonica tracks.. And that was a s far as it got until returning to England in the Summer of 2014. We recorded a violin part with Sam Barry and layered it into the mix. The track was then ready for vocals, which would have to wait until August 2015 back in Australia.
