I wrote a song about checking for #BreastCancer and how *anyone* can get breast cancer.
Yes, it's mainly women with 1 in 7 Australian women getting Breast Cancer, but men's numbers are also rising (1 in 600 men in 2024, this yeah it's 1 in 550) and many men aren't even aware they can get Breast Cancer so with early detection being key, I wanted the song to be inclusive.
Mainly only women are shown in awareness ads (which further isolates the men, intersex and nonbinary people going through Breast Cancer) so I wanted to honour all, and to raise awareness for everyone to "Get To Know Your Normal" and "Check Your Chest".
For the song to be less scary or clinical and more colloquial, I called it "Touch Your Tits".
I've been performing it live, all month long to raise awareness and I've been getting LOTS of positive feedback, especially for the inclusive language and how many men were surprised they could be that 1 in 550.
I wrote it hoping it would get stuck in people's heads and they'd remember to "Touch your tits, check your chest and goodness' sake, go pat your pecs."
All royalties (like my song "Come Home, Soon") go to National Breast Cancer Foundation
