"I first produced a version of this track in full in my room but I felt like it was missing something, so I took it to my extremely talented friend Steve Lindsay at Old Binda Road Studios alongside genius multi-instrumentalist Ben Malone. We added the lead guitar which lifted the whole song, as well as re-creating my production and adding new elements. The vocals are actually a mix of what was recorded with my equipment at home, along with extra added vocal layers made in the studio. It was so fun to all work in depth together on a track that personally means so much to me. My songs are my stories, and working with people who respect my vision and who make collaborating a fun and safe environment brought me such relief and gratitude. This song is about the current climate in Australia that I (and many, many others) have experienced involving consent. It brings a certain stabbing grief knowing that living as a woman means that to some people you're not seen as a human being, but only as an object of their attraction. I believe it is so important that we are now teaching students in the classroom about informed consent, what it means, how it works, and to listen carefully to others so we respect each others boundaries. But there is still so much more that needs to be done to conquer this issue. There have been headlines involving our own parliament about the harassment and violation of female staff, and domestic violence rates continue to rise with a woman being killed every week and 120 people are hospitalised e week due to family and domestic violence. We need more laws and protections put in place to prevent and protect those who suffer from this, and it needs to be done now."
